How to read books in English with translation

Reading books in the original is one of the most enjoyable ways to learn English. You see words in real context, absorb grammar without drills and get used to authentic language. The hard part is unfamiliar words: opening a translator on every line is exhausting.

In Mira, translation is built into the book. Tap a word to see its translation, phonetic transcription and pronunciation. Select a phrase to translate the whole expression. Words you need go to your personal dictionary, and spaced repetition helps you remember them for good.

French books for beginners and beyond

If you are learning French, Mira works the same way: French books with tap-to-translate, phonetic transcription and narration. Start with a short book, then move on to Dumas and Hugo once you feel confident.

Listen and read at the same time: narration with word highlighting trains listening and pronunciation. The voices run on your phone, so you can read and listen without internet — on the road, on a plane or on the metro.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I read English books for free?

Yes. The free version includes catalog books, tap-to-translate and up to 400 characters of narration a day. A subscription removes the limits.

Which languages are words translated into?

Ukrainian, Russian, English or French — choose your language in settings. The app interface is available in the same four languages.

Do I need an internet connection?

Downloaded books and narration work offline. You can download offline dictionaries for translation without internet. AI explanations need a connection.

What level of English do I need?

A2 is a comfortable place to start. Every book is graded from A2 to C1, and the Short filter helps you choose your first one.

Is this a parallel translation, like bilingual books?

No: you read the full original, and a translation appears only for the word or phrase you choose. Nothing distracts you, so you think more in the language.

Can I add my own book?

Yes, add your own books as files. One book in the free version, unlimited with a subscription.

Is Mira available for iPhone?

Android only for now — get Mira on Google Play. Other platforms will follow.
