Mira Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
1. Who We Are
Mira (the app and the website miralang.com) is operated by Individual Entrepreneur (FOP) Hryshko Andrii Mykolaiovych, Ukraine ("we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. Contact: mirasupporthelp@gmail.com.
2. Information We Collect
Account information: when you create an account or sign in with Google, we collect your name and email address (and, for Google Sign-In, your Google account identifier). Passwords are stored in hashed form — we never see or store your plain-text password. After you sign in, our server issues a sign-in token that keeps you signed in; it expires after 180 days.
App backup (optional, paid plans): if you create a backup, we store a copy of your saved dictionary words (with your notes) and, for books from the Mira catalog, your reading progress, highlights, and bookmarks on our server, linked to your account, so you can restore them on another device. Books you import yourself are never included in a backup.
Support messages and ratings: if you contact us or rate the app, we store the message or rating together with your account email so we can respond and track feedback.
Reading and dictionary data: by default, the books you read, your reading position, and saved dictionary words are stored only on your device. Only the data described under App backup is sent to our servers, and only if you create a backup; your imported books are never sent.
Text-to-speech: Mira reads books aloud using voices that run entirely on your device (voice models are downloaded once). No text or audio is sent to any server to generate speech.
Reminders: reminder notifications are created on your device. We do not run a push-notification service and do not receive your notification settings.
Word lookups (translation, definitions, pictures): when you tap or save a word or phrase, that word or phrase (not the whole book) is sent to third-party services to get a translation, a dictionary definition, and a picture: Google Translate web endpoints (translate.googleapis.com, clients5.google.com), MyMemory (mymemory.translated.net), Wiktionary (en.wiktionary.org, operated by the Wikimedia Foundation), Free Dictionary API (freedictionaryapi.com), and Pixabay (pixabay.com). Translation requests may also contain the surrounding sentence to choose the correct meaning. Like any internet request, these requests reveal your device's IP address to the service. Image search results are stored on your device for 24 hours. Selected pictures are downloaded to your device. If you turn on offline translation, Google ML Kit translates on your device after downloading a language model from Google.
Downloads: catalog books are downloaded from Project Gutenberg (gutenberg.org), and voice models from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and GitHub (github.com). These services see your IP address and the file you requested. The app also checks for app updates through Google Play.
AI explanations (optional): when you ask for an AI explanation, the word or passage you selected and its surrounding sentence are sent to our server and processed by Groq (groq.com), our AI processing provider, to produce the explanation. Usage records contain the model, time, token counts and estimated cost, not the selected passage.
Emails: to verify your email address and to reset your password, we send you emails through our email provider, Brevo. Brevo receives your email address and the message.
Server logs: our server keeps operational logs needed to run and protect the service, such as IP address, time and request status. Web-server logs do not record request addresses or referrers. We also use your IP address to limit abusive request rates.
Subscription payments: if you purchase a paid subscription, payment is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your payment card details — we only receive confirmation of your subscription status from Google.
Website: our website miralang.com does not use cookies, local storage, analytics or tracking, and its fonts are served from our own server. If you send a message through the website form, we store the message, the optional email address you enter and the page language, and forward them to our support mailbox through Brevo so we can reply. Messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and are deleted on request.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information above to provide and maintain your account, keep you signed in, sync your reading progress and dictionary across devices (if Backup is enabled), translate and explain words you select, send account emails (verification and password reset), respond to support requests, protect the service from abuse, and manage your subscription. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling or automated decisions that affect you.
Legal bases (where the GDPR or similar laws apply): we process account, backup, word-lookup, AI and subscription data to perform our contract with you (provide the features you ask for); server logs and rate limiting are based on our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure; account emails are part of the contract. We do not send marketing emails. If we ever start a newsletter, we will ask for your consent first and every such email will contain an unsubscribe link.
4. Third Parties
Google: used for Google Sign-In (authentication), Google Play Billing (subscription payments), Google Play app updates, Google Translate web endpoints and Google ML Kit model downloads. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
Service providers that receive only the data described in section 2: MyMemory, Wiktionary (Wikimedia Foundation), Free Dictionary API and Pixabay (word lookups); Groq (AI explanations); Brevo (account emails); Project Gutenberg, Hugging Face and GitHub (downloads); and our hosting provider, Hetzner, which runs our server and database. These services are governed by their own privacy policies.
We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in this app, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
You can delete your account from Profile in the app after confirming ownership. This deletes the account, sign-in tokens, cloud backup, support messages and ratings. AI usage records retain token counts, model, time and cost with the account link removed; they do not contain your selected text. Our server database is backed up daily and backups are kept for 14 days, so deleted data can remain in those backups for up to 14 days before it is overwritten. Operational server logs are separate and kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting. If you cannot access the app, request deletion at mirasupporthelp@gmail.com. Uninstalling the app does not delete your server account.
6. International Processing
Our server and the service providers listed above may process data in countries other than the one where you live.
7. Your Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to some processing. You can delete your account in the app, and you can contact us at mirasupporthelp@gmail.com to exercise these rights. You can use Mira as a guest without an account, and you can turn off AI explanations by not using them — nothing is sent for AI processing unless you ask. To ask us to delete specific data without deleting your account, email us from your account email. We answer requests within 30 days. If you live in the EU/EEA or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children's Privacy
Mira is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users under the age of digital consent in their country (up to 16 in some EU countries) may create an account only with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal data without such permission, contact us at mirasupporthelp@gmail.com and we will delete it.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage over the internet is 100% secure.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version in the app with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
11. Contact Us
